Invitation to join East Yorkshire Local Food Network

Published: 15/01/2013

Katie Taylor, who owns and runs Drewton's Farm Shop near South Cave and is well known for championing Yorkshire food and drink, has been invited to become a Board Member of the East Yorkshire Local Food Network.

The invitation is further recognition of Katie's commitment to supporting Yorkshire-based food and drink producers, and encouraging consumers to think about where the produce they buy comes from.

Katie set up Drewton's Farm Shop just over two years ago and her business has won a string of awards since then, including the 'Taste of Yorkshire' award at Welcome To Yorkshire's 2012 White Rose Awards. More recently, Katie was named 'Entrepreneur of the Year' in the Hull and East Riding Mail's annual Business Awards.

Katie said: "The East Yorkshire Local Food Network plays an important role in supporting and promoting farmers, growers and food producers in the area and I'm thrilled to have been asked to join the Board. I'm passionate about locally-sourced food and drink; at Drewton's Farm Shop around 80 per cent of the goods we sell are sourced from Yorkshire-based farmers and growers. We buy from a network of more than 200 local food and drink producers."

Recently Katie has introduced 'Made in Yorkshire' branding within the shop to highlight the wealth of local produce on offer, and she's also involved in a project with Welcome To Yorkshire and other farm shops in the county to look at how they can work together to champion Yorkshire food and drink.

In a further example of Katie's efforts to promote the producers whose goods are on sale in the Farm Shop, she's hosting two 'Come Dine With Me Drewton's-style' events next month. Customers can book tables at two special dinners being held on February 2 and February 23, where they'll be served a six-course meal made using the finest Yorkshire food and drink. In a unique twist, they'll be joined by the food producers who have supplied the ingredients and will be able to chat to them over dinner to find out more about where and how they're produced.
