Drewton’s Farm Shop to supply hampers for Tour de Yorkshire winners

Published: 27/04/2015

Drewton’s Farm Shop near South Cave is to supply gift hampers full of Yorkshire produce for the winners of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race, which takes place next weekend (1 to 3 May).

Proprietor Katie Taylor was approached by regional tourism body Welcome To Yorkshire and invited to provide the prizes. All of the items in the hampers will be sourced from Yorkshire-based suppliers. Drewton’s Farm Shop will provide 13 hampers in all – ten for top-placed cyclists in the women’s race and three for the winners of the men’s race.

Katie Taylor said: “It’s a huge honour to be asked to provide the hampers that will be presented to the winners on the podium. When Welcome To Yorkshire approached us, we were only too happy to help. I think it’s a lovely idea to send the winners home with a hamper for of Yorkshire produce.”

To coincide with Stage 2 of the Tour de Yorkshire passing through North Newbald on Saturday 2 May, Drewton’s Farm Shop is hosting a charity fundraising event in aid of North Newbald Church. It will be a family party with live music and entertainment, which will take place at Field House on Burgate (a private property right next to the route). A small number of tickets are still available, priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children up to 12 years. There will be a range of food stalls and a bar, where guests can buy drinks, ice cream and snacks.

Katie said: “We wanted to organise an event that would enable the local community to benefit from the economic boost that the Tour de Yorkshire will bring to our little corner of Yorkshire, so proceeds from the party will go towards the fundraising campaign to provide new disability access doors at the village church.

Taking place between 1 and 3 May, the Tour de Yorkshire will be one of the biggest cycle races in the UK in 2015, not to mention one of the most exciting dates in the international cycling calendar. Some of the top international teams will be taking part, and the action will be broadcast live on TV in the UK and across Europe.
