Drewton’s Farm Shop to host traditional Burns Night Supper

Published: 07/01/2013

Haggis with 'champit tatties and bashed neeps' will be on the menu alongside a host of other Scottish delicacies when Drewton's Farm Shop stages a traditional Burns Night supper later this month, complete with entertainment from an award-winning piper.

Pipe Major David Waterton-Anderson KSG, who was once personal piper to The Duke of Hamilton, will be attendance. David has since become the official piper to the 'Council of Scottish Armigerous Clans and Families' and personal piper to the Baron of Myrton. He's the only piper in the British Isles to have been honoured with a State Knighthood.

David will give the 'Immortal Memory', a traditional part of any Burns Night celebration, which includes extracts from the poetry of Robert Burns, and stories about his life and work. He will also lead a toast to Burns, the 'Bard', and the evening will conclude with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

The five-course menu will feature a wealth of traditional Scottish recipes, which will be made with ingredients sourced from Drewton's extensive network of more than 200 Yorkshire-based farmers, growers and suppliers. Options include Cullen skink made with East Cost haddock, local leeks and Howden potatoes, served with oatcakes from Driffield's Side Oven Bakery; Yorkshire venison; and a mousse made with East Riding honey and whisky.

Katie Taylor, who owns and runs Drewton's Farm Shop, said: "Our Burns Night Supper will be a fusion of Scottish tradition and the finest Yorkshire produce. The dishes on the menu and the entertainment for the evening are all very much in keeping with a traditional Burns Night celebration, but we'll be making the dishes using the very finest food and drink from right here in Yorkshire, which is what we specialise in here at Drewton's. With David joining us to provide musical entertainment and give the Immortal Memory, it promises to be a fantastic evening."

The Burns Night Supper will take place on Friday 25 January. Tickets are priced at £35 per person and must be booked in advance by telephoning 01430 425079.
