Drewton’s Farm Shop to host the Archbishop of York

Published: 27/03/2017

Drewton’s Farm Shop near South Cave in East Yorkshire is excited to announce that it will play host to the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, when he visits the area on Friday 7 April.

The Archbishop will join children from Newbald School for an Easter service at St Nicholas’ Church in the village, during which he will bless the church’s new entrance porch. The newly-erected porch cost in the region of £15,000 and was paid for with grants from local wind farm funds, money raised by Drewton’s Farm Shop’s Tour de Yorkshire event in the village in 2015 and donations made to the Church Restoration Fund.

After attending church, Dr Sentamu will visit Drewton’s Farm Shop, where he will meet proprietor Katie Taylor and her team, as well as enjoying afternoon tea. The visit forms part of the Archbishop’s Mission Weekend in the Howden Deanery.

Katie Taylor said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to help raise funds for the new church porch with our fundraising event, which took place to coincide with the Tour de Yorkshire visiting the area two years ago. It’s wonderful to see that the porch is in place now, and we’re absolutely thrilled that the Archbishop of York will be joining us to sample our afternoon tea after he has visited the church. We’re very excited to meet him and to be able to offer him some Drewton’s Farm Shop-style hospitality.”

Reverend Mike Bushby said: “St Nicholas' Church wishes to thank Drewton’s Farm Shop for the support and encouragement Katie and her team have given to this project, and the church in general. The Archbishop’s objective is for us all to experience the love of God in his presence and for the Light of Christ to shine in all our lives.”

Bookings are being taken for Afternoon Tea at Drewton’s Farm Shop on Friday 7 April, when demand is expected to be high. To reserve a table, please telephone 01430 425079.
