Drewton’s Farm Shop set to be in the thick of the Tour de Yorkshire action

Published: 03/03/2015

Just days after hosting a hugely successful Tour de Yorkshire roadshow in partnership with regional tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire, Drewton’s Farm Shop has unveiled exciting plans for when the eagerly anticipated race comes to East Yorkshire in May.

Working in conjunction with the Wilsons Wheels Race Team from Beverley, Drewton’s Farm Shop is offering a limited number of places on a unique, four-day ‘Detour de Yorkshire’ Cycling Experience for cycling enthusiasts who want to explore the region. The programme offers participants the chance to enjoy guided rides along sections of the route, as well as cycling out to the best vantage points when Stage 1 of the race gets underway on 1 May. They’re guaranteed a place at the very heart of the action when Stage 2 of the race passes through Newbald the following day. Meals at Drewton’s Farm Shop and other local eateries are included. On Friday 1 May, Drewton’s Farm Shop will be the venue for a huge, festival-style party, complete with live entertainment and a fish and chip supper, followed by desserts and ice cream. Tickets are priced at £20 per person.

On Saturday 2 May<, when Stage 2 of the race brings competitors through East Yorkshire, Drewton’s Farm Shop will host a Big Yorkshire Breakfast to set race-goers up for the day ahead. Priced at £10 per person, breakfast will be served at 8am to allow people enough time to make their way to the route to watch the action just a mile or so down the road.

The Drewton’s team will then head to Newbald Church, where they’ll host a Flower Festival and barbecue in aid of village charities, including the fundraising campaign to provide much-needed disability access doors for the church. There will be a large television screen so that people can watch the racing action, as well as live entertainment.

Katie Taylor, proprietor of Drewton’s said: “When the Tour de France came to Yorkshire last year, it was wonderful for our county; it put Yorkshire on a worldwide stage. We’re especially pleased to hear that those areas of Yorkshire that were not part of the route last year will host the Tour de Yorkshire this year.”

“This is East Yorkshire’s moment to shine! We’re proud to be collaborating with Welcome To Yorkshire, the Wilsons Wheels Race Team from Beverley, other local businesses and community groups to try to ensure that the Tour de Yorkshire really puts the region on the map. As well as showing visitors what this part of the world has to offer, it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to get out into Newbald to help the community use this exciting event as a fundraising opportunity.”

Taking place between 1 and 3 May, the Tour de Yorkshire will be one of the biggest cycle races in the UK in 2015, not to mention one of the most exciting dates in the international cycling calendar. Some of the top international teams will be taking part, and the action will be broadcast live on TV in the UK and across Europe.

Drewton’s Farm Shop will also be televising the race for customers to enjoy throughout the course of the weekend.
