Additional butcher appointed to meet growing demand for locally-sourced meat

Drewton's Farm Shop, near South Cave in East Yorkshire, has recruited an additional butcher to enable the team in the in-house butchery to meet the ever-growing demand for its quality, locally-sourced meat.


Paul Glover, (48) of Hornsea, has a wealth of experience, having worked as a butcher for 31 years. This includes several years spent working at an award-winning farm shop in West Yorkshire. Paul will work alongside Head Butcher John Lund, who has seen demand for his products soar in recent months. John's team sources the finest quality meat from Yorkshire farms and prepares it in-house to supply the Farm Shop, as well as the teams in the Bakery, who use it to make award-winning pies, sausage rolls and other baked goodies, and the kitchen, who use it to prepare the tempting dishes on the café and restaurant menus.



John said: "After news of the horse meat scandal broke, we were inundated with customers who had been put off buying cheap processed meat from the supermarkets. People wanted reassurance about the quality and provenance of the meat they were buying. I think there has been a real shift back to buying meat from your local butcher, which is great news for us.


"In recent months, demand has continued to rise and, with the bakery and kitchen teams here at Drewton's Farm Shop also very busy, it became clear that we needed another experienced butcher. We're delighted to welcome Paul to the team."


Katie Taylor, proprietor of Drewton's Farm Shop, said: "John does a sterling job; many of our customers ask him for advice and tips on the best cuts of meat and how to prepare them. We see that as part and parcel of the specialist service that you get from your local butcher - you just don't get that level of knowledge and expertise at a supermarket. Paul is also very experienced and will be a great addition to the team. Together, John and Paul will be looking at our barbecue range for summer, and working closely with the team in the kitchen on a range of home-cooked, oven-ready dishes for customers to heat up at home."


Customers old and new are encouraged to pop in to meet Paul, and reminded that they're welcome to chat to John and Paul about their requirements. They're only too happy to offer advice, serving suggestions and prepare meat to your specific requirements. They can also take orders.
